Meet RichieNewRich, a digital nomad sharing tips on designing a 'new rich' lifestyle. We first came across RichieNewRich on Twitter and were instantly inspired by his passion to create a fulfilling and meaningful life so we reached out to Richie to learn more about his journey.
WHAT IS YOUR 'PROFESSION' / WHAT DO YOU DO?
I am a Webmaster & Consultant with expertise in Digital Marketing. I help clients develop an online presence, increase traffic and conversions and build out their sales funnels. I am also a content marketer and produce a wide variety of online content. I also build my own digital assets for passive income.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO GET INTO THIS?
When I was 10, my parents hired a computer tutor for me to learn DOS. I was a hacker nerd ever since. I like to build websites and so I'm always staying up to date in that field. After I read the 4HWW in 2011 I realized that working online and continuing to develop my web-based freelance skills would prove key in designing the life I truly wanted which is one driven by freedom.
HOW DID YOU GET TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY? QUICKLY WALK US THROUGH SOME OF THE MAJOR STEPS IN YOUR JOURNEY.
I keep a spreadsheet which details every major thing I've learned, my major projects and clients, failures, experiments, relationships and so on. I like to see the cause and effect of the things I do. I recommend others do that as well. The major steps for me was setting a clear intention on the life I wanted to have. Once that was done, the universe started organizing for me and I just kept pushing myself to learn more. I read a lot and I love learning on my own. So it was just one skill after another.
First I became a Wordpress master, then I learned SEO, then landing page design, then paid traffic, then affiliate marketing, then copywriting and conversion strategies, and it goes on. This year I developed my first mobile game as a fun project (check out Long Pong in the iOS store). Mobile is the future and I want to be in on it.
Some might say I'm not specialized enough and you don't want to be a jack-of-all-trades, but that applies more to career focused people which I am not. I am a lifestyle designer and I built mine from the ground up with my priorities clearly set, from there I look for the income sources which support that lifestyle design. You have to be creative and determined.
HOW DID SOCIAL MEDIA PLAY INTO THIS AND HOW DID YOU USE IT TO YOUR ADVANTAGE?
Frankly, I don't think social media played a role in this at all. I always tell people that social media is at the bottom of the sales funnel. People only follow and engage after they know you and like your brand. It doesn't have a big impact on my bottom line. I'm not saying don't use it, just recognize the real purpose of it. I'm on Twitter and Instagram but it's more as a supporting thing and not something I worry too much about. To do it right is also very time consuming and I'd rather be creating written or video content that is evergreen. Can you build your entire business on a social platform? Yes, some of my clients do, but there is a risk the platform changes and your business model can't adapt.
WHAT WOULD BE YOUR NUMBER ONE TIP FOR WORKING WHILE TRAVELING?
My number one tip for working while travelling is to keep it really simple. I keep detailed action lists using WorkFlowy so I can just crush tasks by following the steps I've already optimized for myself. I don't want to reinvent the wheel while travelling.
WALK US THROUGH A DAY IN THE LIFE OF RICHIENEWRICH
A day in the life goes like this:
Morning Routine: I have a very powerful early morning (5am) routine which includes mediatation to clear the mind, kundilini yoga to develop discipline, chanting to set the mental vibration right and relaxation (yoga nidra).
Open the laptop. Check Asana for client work. Assess if there is anything in the whirlwind that is unsuspected that needs attention. Decide which tasks are priority and finish them.
Then...Write. Produce videos. Blog. Update Digital courses. Whatever I feel like creating.
Then I just try and live. My life becomes my content because I keep trying to go further and its interesting for others to watch the pages turn I suppose. I think we all need to realize how amazing we are and start telling ourselves that. From there things start to fall into place but the self-love (confidence) has to come first. You have to believe. You have to say I AM. You have to accept yourself as you are and realize that's where the real abundance comes from. Too many people try to recreate someone else's life and that is a recipe for failure. Just be, don't become.
IF YOU HAD ONLY ONE MINUTE TO GIVE YOUR BEST ADVICE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
My best advice is to start today. It's that simple. you can't get ahead until you get started. Identify who you are going to serve, narrow it down more than you think and start delivering.
You have to realize that if you are going to achieve new goals you have to do new things. You also have to let old things go.
My blog post 5 Steps to Becoming a Digital Nomad outlines this.
Once I realized I was already good enough, I could stop waiting and start creating the reality I wanted. There is a lot of spiritual powers people are missing out on because they don't understand what it truly is. There is a lot of confusion out there with religion and such but you have to persist because there is a lot more to the world than we realize.
Start with these books to cut through the BS: The Mind by Yogi Bhajan. Conversations with God by Neil Walsch. These are game changers for most people.

WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR RICHIENEWRICH? WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 5 YEARS TIME AND WHAT WILL YOU BE WORKING ON?
I want to continue optimizing my life for fulfilment. Meaning I will do what it takes to feel like I am fully realizing my soul's potential in this world. I don't plan that far ahead, I just work towards goals each and every day. In this current world you cannot expect things to be the same 5 years down the road. It would be a shame to miss out on new opportunities because you are attached to any given outcome. Start realizing that things don't happen to us, they happen for us, and if you are tuned into that you can start seeing some amazing things that you would not have planned for.
ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO ADD OR SHARE?
I want to add that if you want to be nomadic, you should have that life working for you in your hometown first. You don't leave and then expect things to start falling into place. I had 20 paying clients before I left.
Finally, get your mind right, get your body and nervous system right. These are key to success. Take a close look at anything that is happening in excess or is addictive (these are stealing your power and you don't know it!)
You have the power to do anything in this world. There is no good and bad, only experience. Make yours count.
