Meet Rachel & explore the world through her travel blog

EVER WONDERED HOW BLOGGING CAN HELP YOU CREATE YOUR IDEAL LIFE?

Meet Rachel, the owner of Global Roaming, a travel blog that has taken her, and her followers, to some amazing places around the world, whilst opening up dream career opportunities.

WHAT IS YOUR 'PROFESSION'/ WHAT DO YOU DO?

After travelling for 2 years, I have settled into London life and currently work as a Social Media and Marketing Executive for a luxury travel company. I have moved to blogging part time, but still get to do what I love every single day!

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO GET INTO THIS?

Travel has always been an obsession of mine and by creating my personal platform to share this, it opened up so many doors. I had been offered numerous roles as a Social Media Manager, but this one really stood out! I also studied Tourism Marketing in Perth, Australia before setting off on my long haul travels, so all the pieces of the puzzle came together in the end.

I am a firm believer in asking for what you want, not just letting things fly by.

HOW DID YOU GET TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY? QUICKLY WALK US THROUGH SOME OF THE MAJOR STEPS IN YOUR JOURNEY.

Growing my blogging platform was no easy task. I am a firm believer in asking for what you want, not just letting things fly by. I was constantly emailing potential collaborations, taking classes and reading articles. Networking is a huge part of what I do and by connecting with big players early on, it pushed me to grow a lot faster than most.

Social media is definitely the reason why myself and many others have had success.

HOW DID SOCIAL MEDIA PLAY INTO THIS AND HOW HAVE YOU USED IT TO YOUR ADVANTAGE?

It is funny that just a few years ago, none of this blogging world existed as it stands today. Social media is definitely the reason why myself and many others have had success. I realised very early that communication is key, you need to be a friend to your readers, and be seen as a physical being not just a website. Social media allows people to feel a part of your life and journey, which in turn leads them to become lifelong readers.

WHAT WOULD BE YOUR NUMBER ONE TIP FOR WORKING WHILE TRAVELING?

Utilise downtime. I love flight time because it is my prime opportunity to smash out 5 or 6 articles, edit pictures or go through my plans without any distraction.

WALK US THROUGH A DAY IN YOUR LIFE

It really depends if I am on a trip or at work! I spend about 2/3 of my year in the office now, so it is a 9-5 lifestyle with epic perks. I am a very scheduled person, so my days are structured pretty firmly. In terms of social media I focus on communication in the morning, creating content midday then scheduling and planning in the afternoons.

There is no harm asking for what you want, whether it be a collaboration, meeting, job... put yourself out there.

IF YOU ONLY HAD ONE MINUTE TO GIVE YOUR BEST ADVICE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

You can't climb the ladder of success with your hands in your pockets. There is no harm asking for what you want, whether it be a collaboration, meeting, job... put yourself out there.

WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR GLOBAL ROAMING? WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 5 YEARS TIME AND WHAT WILL YOU BE WORKING ON?

This is a tough one because I am such a spur of the moment person! I have learnt to take things as they come - sometimes things don't work out, or sometimes you get really lucky! I hope to still be blogging and travelling the world, but ultimately I would also love to start my own travel agency and bring people as much joy as I have every day.
