Meet Shannon... she loves you too!

Have you ever wanted to use your skills or passion to help others? That's exactly what Shannon did. She turned her passion for ephemeral art into a movement. What started as a simple love note to her kids has led to thousands of public displays of affection, showcasing the best of humanity in the process. Through her artwork, website and public speaking events, including presenting at TEDx, she has created a community around getting and giving love. In a world full of complex divisions, it takes only a simple gesture to show the kindness inherent in us all.

What is LoveYou2 and what makes it unique?

LoveYou2 is a public art project. I'm on a mission to change the world one love note at a time - creating easy ways for people to get and give love notes.

What inspired you to start this project?

It all started with a love note I created for my kids and hung on the refrigerator in the kitchen. Friends and family asked for copies of the note. One friend suggested "You should start a website!", and I did.

What impact has LoveYou2 had on your life and the life OF others?

To date, I've hung thousands of love note fliers, held space in community while tens of thousands of love notes have been written, and hung hundreds of wood love note signs on chain link fences. I've received messages from hundreds of strangers and friends illuminating the power of sharing love notes; parents surprised by a love note from a child, random acts of kindness, and the release of deep longing and loss.

Fear of running out of ideas or not being “enough” is one of the biggest challenges.

Starting a project like this must have its challenges. Which challenges did you encounter and how did you overcome these?

Fear of running out of ideas or not being "enough" is one of the biggest challenges. This challenge is always solved by writing love notes. Always. Being in the zone of giving and receiving love is where I find my flow.

If you only had one minute to give your best advice to someone looking to pursue a project they felt passionate about, what would it be?

What can you do right now to move that idea forward? The next step you take moves you closer to your dream and allows you to learn.

I think now, more than ever, our love matters.

What are your plans for LoveYou2? Where do you see it in 5 years time?

My goal is to create and give away as many love notes as possible. I'm exploring reading love notes live online. I dream of a LoveYou2 road trip where I can travel the U.S. and have love note adventures in cities and towns across the country. I fathom responding to crisis with public displays of affection - massive love note installations. I think now, more than ever, our love matters.
